The Funeral Reception

A reception meal is an integral part of many funeral services. In the past, the traditional funeral reception was almost exclusively hosted in the family's home. Most people now prefer to hold the event in a public restaurant or hall.

The main reception is generally held in the evening after the funeral services, but it is not uncommon to also invite a more intimate group out for a meal after a visitation or wake service.

While funeral homes in Connecticut, by state law, are not allowed to provide food or drink (other than water), at Collins Funeral Home, we are fortunate enough to have many good restaurants in the local area. Reception venues can be found on our Concierge Services page.
