Evans George Vochis


November 10th 1926 - January 23rd 2011

Evans George Vochis, 84, of Norwalk, husband of the late Barbara Tripp Vochis, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 23, 2011 at Honey Hill Care Center in Norwalk.  Born November 10, 1926, in New York City, he was son of the late George and Anastasia Zaferiou Vochis.
Evans was a former president of the Norwalk Board of Realtors and a former partner with Empire Realtors.  He was co-owner with his brother in law, George Vallas of the Strawberry Hill Luncheonette, located in Grand Union shopping center in Norwalk and was also active in the community.

He was an army physical trainer during World War II and had been stationed in various vicinities including St. Augustine, Florida.  Later in his career, Evans worked as a realtor at Desmond Virgulak Brown. He was an avid lover of football, a wonderful father and loving grandfather, brother and uncle.

He is survived by his son, George E. Vochis and his daughter Alyssa Vochis. He is also survived by his brother, Charles Vochis and sister, Mary Vallas.  Evans had three grandchildren, Jacqueline Vochis, Evan Vochis and Alex Vochis.  He also left behind a niece and nephews.

Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk. The funeral services will be private. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.

We will always have the memories: ~East Hampton in the summer ~24 Conklin Terrace ~Fishing ~Eating at the diner ~17 Silwen Lane ~29 Van Buren Ave J8 ~Pancakes and bacon for breakfast ~Dunkin Donuts coffee and donuts ~That the key to success is an education ~That “time marches on” ~Watching Jeopardy at night on channel 7 ~Asking you for help with our homework, especially the math problems ~Roast beef and peas for Alex and Evan with potatoes, Ham and Pineapple for Jacqueline (Even though she didn’t eat meat anymore after age 10) ~Going to play at the office at Empire Realty ~Driving in the black Acura ~Playing with the genie lamp, cane and your top hat ~Watching the Giants games downstairs in the basement TV room on Silwen Lane with Pat and Dad screaming at the game ~Eating chocolates, hersheys kisses, drinking root beer floats ~Having the “real” ice cream, butter and heavy cream, none of that low fat stuff ~Eating breakfast at 8AM, lunch at 12 and dinner at 5:30… because any other way… “how do you operate?” ~Red and white peppermints in a basket by the door ~Whole milk in the fridge, wonderbread and folger’s coffee with sugar and half and half ~The garden You are forever our “Popou,” we know you are watching over us from above free as a bird… We will miss you.
