Bruce E. BlaneyAugust 8, 1932 - October 9, 2011Bruce E. Blaney, 79, died Sunday in Norwalk Hospital after a long illness. Beloved husband of Laurie Kimbell Blaney, devoted father of Cheryl Blaney-Slinger (Michael) of PA, loving grandfather of Rebecca and Sarah Slinger of PA, dear uncle of Scott Blaney (Wendy) of NJ, Charlene Pascale, Cindy Lyons, grand-nephew Jacob Blaney and several grandnieces and nephews. Mr. Blaney is also survived by sisters Marlene Parker (Robert) of Virginia, Bernice Dominick of Norwalk, a brother Garvan Blaney of California, several nieces and nephews and a cousin Harry C. Blaney III (Julia) of Maryland. In addition he leaves a stepson, Donald Freitag (Shelia), stepdaughter Christine Kacayo (Ely), 8 step-grandchildren and a step great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his father Charles E. Blaney, Jr., his mother Natalie Weed McClintock, a brother Harry Blaney, nephew Timothy Blaney and wives Shirley Sanders Blaney and Barbara Freitag Blaney. A lifelong resident of Norwalk, Mr. Blaney was retired from the Nash Engineering Company where he served as an officer of their employees’ association and was a member of the Nash softball team and marching band. After retiring he volunteered at the Norwalk Hospital and was active with church groups. Mr. Blaney served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict and as a reservist after discharge. He enjoyed bowling, skiing and fishing prior to his illness and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. Friends may call from 5:00 to8:00 PM on Friday, October 14th, at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk. A Christian service will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 15th, in Bethany Church, 2 Scofieldtown Road., Stamford. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, 81 Riverside Avenue Norwalk In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Blaney’s name may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars – National Headquarters, 406 W. 34th St. Kansas City, MO. 64111 or to Bethany Church, 2 Scofieldtown Rd., Stamford, CT 06903. Mr. Blaney was my Sunday School teacher many years ago at Christ Episcopal Church in East Norwalk. He was such a nice man, well-liked by all in his classes, as well as the rest of the Christ Church family. Please accept my condolences on your loss.
