Alphonse (Phonsie) Quaranta, 94, loving husband of 73 years to the late Pauline Anna Quaranta of Norwalk, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday May 8, 2015 at the Autum Lakes Rehabilitation Center in Norwalk.
Born July 24, 1920 in Mt. Vernon, NY, he was the son of the late Filippo and Maria (Russo) Quaranta.
He is survived by his daughter Marie (Ronald) Castorina of Norwalk and his son James (Susan) Quaranta of Brookfield; 2 grandchildren, Lisa Marie (Salvatore) Randazzo and Richard (Lisa Jean) Castorina of Norwalk; 6 great-grandchildren, Mark, Derrick, Jason and Scott Castorina and Tanner and Bianca Randazzo, all of Norwalk, and by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, who passed away 38 days ago on March 31st, he was predeceased by his parents Filippo and Maria Quaranta, his brothers, Salvatore and Joseph, and his sisters Rose Vecchione, Ann DiMarzo and Madeline (May) Veteri.
Phonsie was the owner of Forty Vendors in Mt. Vernon, NY. He served as a veteran of WWII with the Army. He was an avid golfer and worked until the age of 91 at the Indian Spring Golf Glob in Boynton Beach, FL.
Friends may call on Monday, May 11th from 5:00-8:00 at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk with a prayer service at 6:00 PM. Family and friends will gather directly at Riverside Cemetery, Norwalk to celebrate a graveside service at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 12th.
