Angela R. Monarchie

November 10, 1940 ~ November 7, 2015

Angela R. Monarchie of Norwalk, CT passed away peacefully Saturday, November 7 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Dominick Monarchie, they shared 57 years together. In addition, Angela is survived by four children Christine (and David) Pinard of Huntersville, NC, Matthew (and Michelle) Monarchie of Fishkill, NY, Jennifer Poku of Norwalk, and Amanda (and Sandro) Gelfusa of Dedham, MA. Angela was the proud grandmother to Nicholas, Sabrina, Jacob, Vincent, Daniella, Alexis, Kylie, Brandon, Jaryn, Ashlee, Gianni, Ava, and Christian.
Born in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Rosaria and John Amodeo and sister to Lawrence Amodeo. She graduated from Evander Childs High School in Bronx, NY. After devoting her life to raising her children, Angela returned to school to receive her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education. She full-filled her desire to educate, nurture and mold young minds by working at the Westport Nature Center (Earthplace) as a preschool teacher for 24 years till her retirement in 2011. Angela served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Jerome Parish in Norwalk. She enjoyed traveling, bike riding, spending time at the beach, singing every nursery rhyme ever written, and anything under the sun with her grandchildren.
Although one would never know it based on her fighting spirit and positive attitude, Angela conquered her initial battle with a form of cancer which carried a 5% survival rate in the early 80’s. By using guided imagery and primarily homeopathic remedies she not only survived, but thrived. She traveled, enjoyed life and watched all of her children grow up, get married, and have children of their own even while facing still other medical obstacles along the way. In 2009 Angela faced another battle with cancer. Again, through her inner strength and maintenance of a naturopathic environment she was able to work full-time, enjoy her grandchildren and celebrate her 50th wedding anniversary in Italy. Angela ended her battle the same way she began it with dignity and grace.
Angela’s improved quality of life over the last 35 years was mainly a product of the treatment she received at the Life Extension Center.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, November 12, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 13, at 10:00 AM at St. Jerome Church, 23 Half Mile Road, Norwalk. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery, 223 Richards Avenue, Norwalk.
Contributions may be made in her honor to the Life Extension Center 425 Main Street Ridgefield, CT 06877.

  1. Dear Angela,
I love you dearly and will carry you in my heart and soul until the day I die. You have given me strength in my own battle with cancer. You and Dominic were always there for us. Your are more like my sister, than a cousin. My children respect and love you dearly. No words can express how much I will miss you. Your gentleness, kindness and selflessness will ensure your place in heaven. May God welcome you with open arms as you did with others when on this earth. God will have a special treasure with you in heaven….forever loved….Larry and Stephanie Monaco.
