The funeral service is Friday, November 20, 2015 in Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, at 11:00 A. M. Rabbi Mark Lipson, of Temple Shalom, officiating.

Burial:

Burial will follow in Independent Hebrew Society/Temple Shalom Cemetery.

Shiva:

Shiva, a period of mourning, will be observed at the Norwalk Inn, 99 East Avenue, Norwalk, Saturday and Sunday [Nov. 21 & 22], from 6:30 to 8:30 P. M.

Anita Estelle Gruss, 92, of Boca Raton, Florida, and formerly of Norwalk, died Tuesday, November 17th, at the home of her daughter, Sidra Gruss, in Boca Raton, Florida. She was the wife of the late Martin Gruss, who died in 1989.

Born in New York City, February 25, 1923, daughter of the late Irving and Celia Grodowitz Brenner, Mrs. Gruss was a longtime Norwalk resident. She taught at the Bi-Cultural Day School, in Stamford, for forty-three years, and was the Alumni Liaison there. An avid bridge player, Mrs. Gruss was also interested in the theater; performing with the Wilton Play Shop and the Westport County Playhouse, in years past. She relocated to Florida several years ago.

Survivors in addition to her daughter, Sidra, include another daughter; Fran Levin-Vadeboncoeur, of Indian Land, South Carolina, and Mrs. Gruss was the adoring grandmother to six; Molly Feder, Corey, Jay, and Alexis Levin; Aubrey and Chelsea Lotman, and great grandmother to Sydnie and Joshua Feder.

  1. I was very sorry to learn of Mrs. Gruss’ passing. My memories of her, from 3rd and 4th grade at Bi-Cultural, will always make me smile. She was a very good teacher, strict but fair. I remember all the shows she produced. It was always fun to be a part of them. My fondest memory of her is that she used to hide oreo cookies in her desk. She would eat them on the sly. I always wondered if she realized that we all knew they were there. My deepest condolences to her family at this difficult time.
