Ann Lucy Brautigam


May 1, 1971 ~ March 9, 2018

Ann Lucy Brautigam, 46, passed away peacefully in her sleep from complications with Alzheimer’s Disease and Down Syndrome on March 9, 2018.

Born on May 1, 1971 she was the daughter of Karl A. Brautigam, Jr., and Lucille E. Braugtigam of Norwalk and the granddaughter of Mr. And Mrs. Eugene Loughlin of Cos Cob and Mr. and Mrs. Karl A. Brautigam, Sr., of Old Greenwich.

In addition to her parents Ann is survived by a younger brother Karl A. Brautigam III, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ann graduated from Norwalk High School’s special education program. She worked for several local companies including the Rainbow Shop of Darien and CVS Pharmacy in Darien. STAR agency programs were very helpful all through the years in keeping her active in the Community.

Her special activities were sports, most notably competing in the Darien Lyons Club Special Olympics teams. She competed in tennis and skiing, but also swam, sailed and bowled with the Special Olympics. Ann won dozens of medals in local, regional and statewide competitions.

In 2014 she also won horseback rider of the year award from the New Canaan Mounted Troop (NCMT) program, which is part of the Pegasus Therapeutic Riding Organization.

In addition to her talents in sports, Ann was also an artist. She painted and drew and participated in art programs in New Canaan for people with special needs. She also was an avid writer, not only maintain a dairy, but frequent correspondence with those she loved.

Ann moved from home to a group home managed by STAR. The staff and management have been wonderful in providing Ann a loving, caring environment away from home with her longtime friends.

Ann will be remembered for her happy personality, sense of adventure and boisterous laugh that would make everyone smile. She loved her family and friends deeply.

The STAR Agency was a longtime partner in helping Ann develop into a truly amazing person. They managed the group home Ann spent her last 10 years providing, love, guidance and care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 11, at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Church, 85 South Main Street, Norwalk. Interment will be private.
