Bernhard G. Fortmann

Bernhard G. Fortmann, 98, formerly of Park Ridge, NJ and Pearl River, NY, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2012 at The Smith House Skilled Nursing Residence in Stamford, CT. Ben was born in Hillsdale, NJ on November 10, 1913. He was the son of the late Bernhard and Emma Fortmann of Pearl River, NY.
Mr. Fortmann graduated from Pearl River High School and Lehigh University with a BS in Industrial Engineering. He served as a Captain in the US Army during World War II. He later worked for Curtiss Wright Corporation in NJ as a project engineer and retired from Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation in CT.
Ben served as a Boy Scout leader and member of the Pearl River Volunteer Ambulance Corps board of directors. He enjoyed all sports, sailing, golfing and camping.
Ben is survived by his wife, Margaret Fortmann of Park Ridge, NJ, sons Peter Fortmann and his wife, Jo Anne of Stamford, CT and Dr. Daniel Fortmann and his wife Cynthia of Laguna Niguel, CA and daughter Carol November and her husband James of Atlantic Beach, FL. Additionally, Ben is survived by ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is survived by twin sisters, Dorothea Moss and Marguerite Fortmann, 92, living in Studio City, CA and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Ben was pre-deceased by his first wife, Ellen and son, James.
A memorial service celebrating Ben Fortmann’s life will be held on a future date at the family cemetery in Old Tappan, NJ.
