Caroline "Cay" Stone Pearson
March 30, 1921 - April 27, 2011
Caroline “Cay” Stone Pearson, 90, wife of the late Philip Coombs Pearson, Jr., of Wilton, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 27, 2011 at Norwalk Hospital after a brief illness. Born March 30, 1921, in Boston, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late George and Eva Stone.
Cay spent her younger years living in Briarcliff Manor, New York and Worcester, Massachusetts, then graduating from Bradford Junior College in Bradford, MA. In 1944 she married then Army Staff Sgt. Philip C. Pearson at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, New York City and moved to Florida where he was stationed. Following World War II, they moved to Westport then Norwalk, Connecticut. Cay was employed in the Norwalk Public Schools for over 20 years, as an aide at Brookside Elementary School and secretary for the Board of Education.
Cay and Phil always looked forward to annual family vacations in Maine eating lobsters, picking blueberries and exploring the coast. They were members of Roton Point Beach Club. Cay enjoyed painting, gardening, cooking, writing poetry, and woodworking. Before moving to Brookdale Assisted Living in Wilton, CT in 2004, she was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church, Norwalk where she was on the altar guild, assisted in the office, served on Vestry and taught Sunday School.
She is survived by daughter Joanne (Pearson) Bennett and her husband Dennis of Palo Alto, CA; son, John F. and his wife Sharon (Ely) Pearson of Norwalk, CT; and two grandchildren, Rebecca M. Pearson of Burlington, CT and Christopher P. Pearson of Boston, MA.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held on at 11:00AM, Thursday, June 2, 2011 at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 36 New Canaan Road in Wilton, CT. A reception at the church will follow.
