Christine C. Velander

December 26, 1924 ~ June 19, 2012

Christine C. Velander passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 19 at Nathaniel Whitherell nursing home in Greenwich Connecticut. She was 87 years old.

She was born on 12/26/24, in Deerfield Massachusetts, the 9th of 10 children to Stanley and Nellie Puchalski.

Christine attended South Deerfield High School and Business School of Commerce in Springfield, Ma. She went on to live and work most of her adult life in Stamford Connecticut. Her career as a skilled nurse at Windover Nursing home in Stamford and Nathaniel Witherell in Greenwich gave her a deep sense of fulfillment. She was highly regarded by both her patients and fellow staff members. Those that knew her at work said she was a joy to be around. She retired in 1992.

She especially enjoyed watching her sons and grandchildren play in various sporting events. Through that experience she became an avid baseball fan, spending many joyous hours watching her favorite major league teams. A deeply religious person, she attended Mass or watched it on television daily.

She is survived by her sons, Carl J. Velander and his fiancé Mary Roland of Fairfield CT, and Chris J. Velander of Stamford, CT and by five grandchildren, girls Dana and Blair and boys Chris Jr., Carl Jr. and Colin.

Friends may call on Monday, June 25th between 3 and 6 PM at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk.  Services will be held at 6 PM in the funeral home.
