Daniel Rory Fahy

August 22, 1949 ~ April 29, 2019

Daniel Rory Fahy, 69, devoted husband of Maureen Swords Fahy and loving father of Rory and Kiera, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 29, 2019, surrounded by family.

Danny was born on August 22, 1949, in Utica, NY.  He was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Clark Fahy.  He lived in Sauquoit, NY for the first 18 years of his life and had a happy childhood working on nearby farms with his brother while pulling numerous pranks on each other.  He earned his bachelor’s degree from Central Connecticut State University in 1972.  Dan was a consummate athlete.  After college he played semi-pro football for the Hartford Knights.  Dan developed a passion for running completing 8 marathons and numerous Boilermaker races through the course of his running career.  When injuries sidelined him he substituted biking for running.  He was an avid golfer continuing to play on a weekly basis through much of his battle with cancer.  He instilled his love of sports in his children and he coached his children’s soccer, basketball and football teams.

On St Patrick’s Day in 1989 he met the love of his life – Maureen – in Luke Malloy’s Irish pub and they celebrated 30 happy years together on March 17, 2019.  Throughout his work career he was a skilled carpenter and General Contractor building many upscale houses in nearby towns.  His crowning achievement, second only to the pride and joy he felt for his children, was designing and renovating a home for his family realizing a lifelong dream.

In addition to his wife, Maureen, Daniel is survived by his children; Rory Fahy of New Haven, CT and Kiera Fahy of Norwalk, CT, brother; Kevin Fahy and his wife Clare of Sauquoit, NY, nieces and nephews; Scott Fahy, Kristin Fahy, and Allison and Bob Ryan. He is also survived by ten brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; 18 Swords nieces and nephews and 11 grandnieces and nephews on both sides.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 4, at 1:30 PM at St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Avenue, Norwalk. Interment will be at a later date.

Friends may call on Friday, May 3, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk.

  • Fahy Family,

I was very sorry to hear about the passing of your beloved husband, father, brother, brother-in-law and uncle, Daniel. I will always cherish the fond memories of Dan and I dueling it out for many years at the Utica Boilermaker. He was a great person.

I have added you and your family to my daily prayer list. And, when I attend mass on Sunday, I will add you and your family to our parish book of prayers.

May our Good Lord watch over, bless, protect, comfort and console you and your family as you endure this very difficult, trying and sad time in your lives.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you and your family in your time of loss and sorrow.

  • Maureen, Rory, and Kiera – My sincere condolences go out to each of you, but at the same time, I’m relieved to know that Danny’s cancer will no longer cause him pain. As a close friend of his from “way back in our younger days”, I can assure you that a very good man has been taken from us. I’ve had more great times and hearty laughs with Dan than most people get in a lifetime – some to “hearty” to even repeat. LOL Maureen, Rory, and Kiera – you can all be very thankful for the years and times you got to spend with Dan on a daily basis. He was truly one of a kind and he will be missed by, not just his family, but so many friends – including myself. Danny has been in my thoughts and prayers for awhile now, and will be for a long, long time. God bless you all. Roger
