Dorothy (Safir) Caldwell-Marella


Dorothy (Safir) Caldwell-Marella, 95, of Norwalk died Tuesday at her residence.

Born in Brooklyn, NY daughter of the late Edward and Fannie Goldschmidt Safir, she was a lifelong Norwalk resident graduating in 1936 from Norwalk High School then graduating in 1940 from Beaver College (now called) Arcadia University in Glenside, PA. Dorothy was a member of the Grange in Georgetown, CT and was a 20 year volunteer with the Norwalk Soup Kitchen. She enjoyed Sunday brunch with her friends at the Shore and Country Club and she could be found everyday reading the New York Times and playing Scrable. Dorothy was an active member of the Norwalk High School Alumni Association.

Surviving are her children, Judith E. Darragh of East Norwalk, CT, John A. Caldwell of San Francisco, CA, Paul E. Caldwell and his wife Evelyn of Pine Junction, CO and Mark E. Caldwell of Winchester, CT, grandchildren, Stacey Garnett and her husband Frank of Wellington, FL, Rebecca Savvaides and her husband Angelo of Norwalk, CT, Kristin Murphy and Jackson Caldwell of Colorado; great grandchildren, Zoe Garnett and Thalia Savvaides and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 AM in Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Norwalk.

Friends may visit with the family TODAY, Sept. 25th from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at the funeral home
