Services: The funeral will be held on Monday, May 9, 2011 at 11 am at Congregation Beth El, 109 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT.  Shiva will be observed at: 1 Hermit Lane, Westport, CT. Donations: The family requests that gifts or donations made in Dr. Okon’s memory be directed to the Okon Family Philanthropic Fund II (2474) of the Jewish Communal Fund, (866) 580-4523.  All donations will be used to provide Jewish education for those who may not be able to afford it.

Dr. Joseph J. Okon, 61, passed away Friday, May 6, 2011, in his home.  He was born in New York City to Esther and Sol Okon, and was the beloved brother to the late Dr. Paul Okon.  Dr. Joseph Okon attended Columbia University and earned his Medical Degree at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.  He devoted his career to obtaining funding for the advancement of medical education, and devoted his life to his family and his friends.  A lifelong philanthropist, he was especially dedicated to spreading a Jewish education to those in need.  He served as a member of several Boards of Directors, including UJA Federation and Bi-Cultural Day School.

Dr. Okon will be missed greatly by his three sons, Benjamin, Ezra, and Alexander, by his loving friend, Sandy Samuels, by his brother’s family, and by the many members of his extended family and community who knew and loved him.
