Floyd J. "Smitty" Smith


 

Floyd J.” Smitty” Smith, 89, of Norwalk, husband of the late Millicent I. Smith died Monday at Maplewood at Strawberry Hill.

Born in Norwalk, CT he was the son of the late Floyd F. and Gretchen Rider Smith. Mr. Smith was U.S. Navy Veteran serving in WW II, he was the owner of Smitty’s Shell in Norwalk which he founded in 1951 until his retirement in 1978, he worked part time at the station until 2010.

Surviving are two sons, Floyd F. Smith and his wife Suzanne of Stratford and David R. Smith and his wife Debbie of Norwalk; grandchildren, David R. Smith, Karyn Thompson, Floyd F. Smith, III, Steve Smith, Mark Smith, Sean Smith, Sarah Smith and Rebecca Allen, 9  great  grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers, David Smith, Richard Smith and Harry Smith and two sisters, Mary Lou Briesler and Frances Gammer.

Services will be POSTPONED until Friday, February 14th at 10:30 AM in Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Norwalk.

Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank his private aid, Lenona from Exceptional Care and the entire staff at Maplewood at Strawberry Hill.

In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to, VITAS Innovative Hospice Care, 99 Hawley Lane, Suite 1204, Stratford, CT 06614.

    I want to extend my sincere sympathy to you and your family. It’s never easy but he”s peaceful now. My memory of him was Bob calling the station and chatting with him on Sunday mornings.
