Gloria Petrocci McCarthy
January 25, 2011
Gloria Petrocci McCarthy of Norwalk, passed away peacefully in her sleep and at
home on Tuesday, January 25, 2011.
Born and raised in NYC, Gloria enjoyed the ethnic traditions of the Italian-
American heritage of her community, Greenwich Village, and the great cultural
diversity and bustling times of pre-war NYC. As a young woman, she made the
move to Connecticut, finding both good employment as an executive assistant and
the love of her life, William J. “Bill” McCarthy.
As Bill’s best mate, Gloria became an avid boater exploring the waters of the
Sound and the treasures of the Islands. In retirement, boating gave way to travel
adventures in Europe as well as the simple pleasures of walking by the water with
their beloved beagles, Mickey and Mick. A generous woman and devout Catholic,
Gloria also made time to serve her church, St. Philip, as parish secretary for many
of her retirement years.
Gloria was blessed with a long, rich, and fulfilling life enjoyed with family, friends
and in the company of her beloved dogs – Duchess, Cappy, Mick and Mickey.
Gloria is survived by numerous McCarthy and Petrocci relatives; step-son Billy
McCarthy, Jr. raised in Norwalk, CT; her niece Barbara Petrocci Resnick and
nephew Michael Petrocci both of Ontario, Canada, and their sister, Anne Petrocci
of Ramsey, NJ who was also Gloria’s caregiver.
Relatives and friends are invited to say their good-byes at the Collins Funeral
Home, 92 East Ave., Norwalk on Sunday, January 30, 2011, 4-8pm. A mass of
Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Philip Church at 10am on Monday,
January 31, 2011.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to PAWS, a non-profit,
no-kill rescue shelter for homeless cats and dogs located at 504 Main Ave.,
Norwalk, CT. 06851 and St. Philip Church, 1 Fr. Conlon Pl., Norwalk, CT 06851.
