Harvey Alan Block

October 27, 1949 - April 1, 2020

Was born in Norwalk, Connecticut on October 27, 1949. Harvey was seventy years old when he passed away from Covid 19 in Princeton, New Jersey on April 1, 2020.

Harvey grew up in Westport, Connecticut graduating from Staples High School in 1967.  He attended Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania and he graduated in 1971. He was a political science major and politics would always be one of his interests and topics of conversation.  Harvey’s career was in real estate and he owned a title insurance company in central New Jersey.  He lived with his wife and their son – first in Hillsborough and then in Branchburg, New Jersey.

Harvey had a passion for travel – in his youth, he and his lifelong best friend, Roger Adler, traveled across the country through the Camp Caravan Program.  Ultimately Harvey would travel to 47 of 50 US states in his lifetime.  At Dickinson, Harvey was a proud member of Beta Theta Pi and the Raven’s Claw. His fraternity brothers – Peter Schnur, the now deceased Jack Devenny, Paul Kovach, Joe Grubb, Bert Talley, James Nolan, and more – proved to be loyal friends throughout his life.  Harvey loved music – The Beach Boys, Bob Marley, etc.  He was a big Yankees fan.  In the 1990s, Harvey organized ongoing charity work for the Special Olympics.

Harvey suffered from frontotemporal dementia later in life and moved to an assisted living/nursing home facility in Princeton, New Jersey, where he served as the President of the Residents Council.  Preceding Harvey’s death was his mother, Berta Reesman Block Olderman, his father, Morris J. Block, his stepfather, Michael Olderman, and his sister, Sheila Block Lukins. He leaves behind his beloved and cherished son, Jason Block and Jason’s wife, Ingrid Mikulik, his former wife, Cathy Fassler Block, his sister, Elaine Block Yanell and her husband, four nieces and their husbands, three grandnieces and two grand nephews.

Donations can be made to Biden for President, because as Harvey said, even during his final days, “Trump sucks.”

  1. Many cheers Jason for all the loving care you provided to Harvey over the years. Sending thoughts of peace and safety to you and Ingrid.

And yes Biden will get donations.

    Best thoughts and wishes,

    April 21, 2020
