Beloved Friend of Jefferson School

Mr. Herbert Louis Gay, 85, of Norwalk, Connecticut, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Norwalk Hospital. He was born on October 27, 1928 in Pitt County, Farmville, NC. He was the son of the late Richard and Minnie Gay.

Herbert was educated in the Pitt County School system and later pursued studies in Connecticut. He was Head of Facilities at the Norwalk Board of Education and Jefferson School, until his retirement in 1991. Herbert was also a master painter and upholsterer. He was a deacon and member of Strait Gate Church in Mamaroneck, NY for over 50 years. He dedicated his life to service of the Lord.

He was preceded in death by his wife Emma, two sisters, Ruth and Amanda, and one son, Blenda. He is survived by his two daughters, Teresa and Susan, of Norwalk, CT; two sons, Billy and Carlton, of Greenville, NC; two brothers, Andrew (KY) and Glenwood (NC); four sisters, Emma Pearl and Esther (NC); Jessie (NJ); and Annie(CT); sisters-in-law Earlene and Joyce (CT), and Mary (NC); brothers-in-law Freddie (CT), Jerry (CT) and Robert (NC); several nieces, Nephews, grandchildren and a host of other relatives.

Friends may call from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, July 17, at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date in NC.
