Her father, Max Hugo Barth was born in Bernsdorf, Germany and her mother, Anna Frieder Meier was born in Lichtenstein, Germany. Max arrived in N.Y. on June 8, 1929 on the S.S. Her father was a knitter and operated and serviced knitting machines.

Hertha was married to Otto Mecherlen who was a watchmaker and learned his trade in Darmstadt, Germany and has one daughter, Eleanor Mihailidis. She has been living in Wilton since 1992 with her daughter Eleanor and she enjoyed going to Ogden House for the Wednesday lunches and played bingo on Thursdays.  As of May 2009, she was a resident of Wilton Meadows. She loved her garden and grew many flowers.  She was loved by everyone and will be missed.
