Visitation:

Friends may call on the family in Wilton on Monday and Tuesday, and in Sloatsburg on Wednesday and Thursday.

Hetty Sue Shapiro


July 13, 1939 - March 9, 2012

Hetty Sue Shapiro, 72, wife of Bernard Shapiro of Stamford, passed away Friday, March 9, 2012 at Stamford Hospital.  Born July 13, 1939, in Brooklyn, New York, Hetty was the daughter of the late Samuel Rosen and Lillian Wagner. Hetty attended Tilden High School in Brooklyn.  She graduated at age 20 from City College of New York. After briefly working as a teacher in a junior high school, she enrolled in Brooklyn Law School, one of four women in her entire class. She worked as an administrative law judge for a number of years in New York City before retiring.  Hetty did volunteer work assisting new Russian Jewish immigrants to the United States. In her retirement Hetty enjoyed many activities including travel, sketching and painting.

She is survived by her husband Bernard, her son Lawrence and his wife Carin of Sloatsburg, NY, daughter Susan Steiz and her husband Charles of Wilton, CT, grandchildren Amanda, Carly and Ilyssa of Sloatsburg and Benjamin and Noah of Wilton.  She is also survived by her brother Bernard Rosen of Florida.
