Howard "Buzz" Katzen

September 9, 2011

Howard “Buzz” Katzen, 79, of Westport, CT and Scottsdale, AZ passed away on September 9th, surrounded by his adoring family.

He had a zest for life, was a true gentleman, loved everything he did, and was supremely content.

Loving husband to Arlene Rieger for 54 charmed years; exceptional father to Jane Katzen DeNunzio and Sue Katzen, and father-in-Law to Robert DeNunzio.
Howard is the son the late Julius and Margaret Katzen; brother of the late Joan Buchman of Brooklyn, New York. He attended James Madison High School in Brooklyn, NY; Syracuse University where he was a brother in the TEP fraternity and graduated from NYU. Buzz served the US Army in the CIC; Stuttgart, Germany.

Howard enjoyed a distinguished career with The Xerox Corporation where he rose to Global Marketing Director from sales over his 32 years there.  He helped create Global Account Marketing and established the model for Xerox’ current Global Account Operations. He retired to Scottsdale, Arizona and enjoyed a second career as jazz promoter and prominent figure in the Arizona Musicfest. Other passions included global affairs, political discussion, movies and baseball.

Howard was the loving uncle of Robbie and Brooks Sumberg, Charles and Andrea Jayson; Matthew and Melitte Buchman and Victoria Lorini. He was the very proud grand uncle of Jenna and Jake Sumberg and Matthew and Zachary Jayson.
Buzz was extraordinary in his grace; his absence will be felt by so many.
We will love, remember and miss him forever.

Services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 PM at The Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT.  The family will receive at their home from 7:00 to 9:00 PM Wednesday and Thursday evening. 1. Dear Family, I’m so sorry for your loss. Seems like yesterday we were hangin’ around the pool on Harding Lane with Mr. and Mrs. K. My thoughts and prayers are with you all Love, Deirdre

  • Howard was my branch manager at Xerox in Syracuse, NY, during my first sales position in 1967/68. He was a great guy, always encouraging me, and providing a positive role influence to myself and peers. All of us are truly sad to hear of his passing and wanted all to know what a terrific man he was.
