Hyman Seymour Hirsch

Hyman Seymour Hirsch, 84, passed away quietly on Monday, January 10, 2011, at the Jewish Home for the Elderly from complications of Parkinson’s Disease. A 42 year resident of Norwalk, Hy leaves behind Leah, his beloved wife of 60 years and sister Eva Casas of New York. He is also survived by a son, T. Jay Hirsch, daughter Francine Castle and his sons’ daughter and granddaughter, Shealah Marie and Kylie Anne. Hy leaves his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Celia and Marvin Strow of Long Island, a nephew and many nieces and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
A Cum Laude accounting graduate of Long Island University, Hy worked as Comptroller of the Hat Corporation of America for many years.
Hy loved to play tennis. His pursuits included traveling with his wife, square dancing across the United States and Canada, photography, carpentry and needlepoint in which he designed, built or sewed many items that adorned his home.
Hyman dedicated many of his free hours for his volunteer work throughout the community that started at the Norwalk Jewish Community Center in the 1960’s and continued through his retirement working with Temple Beth El at the Norwalk Shelter Manna House. Hyman was an usher at local theaters, taught accounting to the Adult Education computer classes and served as Treasurer for the Lifetime Learners.
Services will be held at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk, on Friday, January 14th at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in Beth El Cemetery, Richards Avenue, Norwalk, CT.
