Jim Tavella, Sr.

June 27, 1924 - December 12, 2012

Jim Tavella, Sr. (James Rocco), 88, husband of the late Frances Tomasetta Tavella and lifelong resident of Norwalk, passed away on Dec. 12th after a long illness.

Born in Norwalk, he was the son of the late Rocco and Lena Masi Tavella.  He attended Norwalk schools and was a graduate of Rice Technical School.

Jim was a Life Member of The South Norwalk Boat Club, long time member of the Laurel Athletic Club and a member and past Financial Secretary of the Carpenter’s Union, Local 210.  He was a Contractor and Professional Estimator for the T.J Riordan Co of Norwalk.

Surviving are his son Jim Tavella, Jr. and his wife Susan, daughters Betty Brink and Judy Mocciola, former son-in-law Alan Mocciola; 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandsons. His is also survived by his companion, Dee Wickie, brother Joe Tavella and his wife Aline, two sisters, Flora Tavella and Jane Gilchrist, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.

Jim was predeceased by three brothers:  Frank, Dominick (Muzzy) and Rocco, Jr.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, Dec. 14th from 4 to 8 at The Collins Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk. Members of the S.N.B.C. will meet at the funeral home at 7:00 p.m..

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at On Saturday at 11:00  a.m. at St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Avenue, Norwalk.   Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Scholarship Fund of the South Norwalk Boat Club, 17 Mack Street, Norwalk, CT 06854 or to Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County, PO Box 489, Wilton, CT 06897.


  1. Dear Judy, Betty and Jimmy: Our deepst condolences regarding the passing of your father. Always a cheery, fun person willing to lend a hand as best he could at the SNBC. He took great joy in watching our kids grow up and “bust em” on Mikey with his fish. We will miss him and want to let you know we are here for you.
