  1. I was deeply saddened to hear of Dr. Finn’s death. I knew Joan when I worked at SCSU many years ago and ran into her (almost literally) at a seaside park on Hilton Head Island a couple of years ago. I’m not sure she actually remembered me, but she was warm and gracious as always. We had a wonderful conversation, reminiscing about people we both knew at Southern and sharing our love of the island. To me, Joan epitomized health, vitality, and love of life. The world is a bleaker place without her. My deepest sympathy to her friends and family.

  • In Longmeadow, Joan lived across the street from my grandparents, Violet and Clarence Durocher. When my grandfather died and his brother Leo Durocher was in town, she had begged her parents to go over for an autograph, to no avail. Every time I saw her she would tell that story. She was a great softball player and I always looked up to her. So sorry to hear of her passing.

  • I was a student at SCSU in the masters progam and was greatful for the opportunity to meet and learn from Professor Finn….. I can only say that I am saddend by the knowledge that I will not be able to take any more classes with her. It was a great experience and she will be missed. My heart goes ot to her circle or family and friends.
