John Charles Gobeil


GOBEIL, JOHN CHARLES, also known as Florie, 95, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at the Greens in Wilton, CT. He was born in New Bedford, MA and was the son of John Charles and Marianne (Chausse) Gobeil. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Emily (Dubiel), his brothers, Roland and Gerald and his sister, Sister Lucille Gobeil of the Sisters of the Holy Cross. He was also predeceased by his son, Florie John Gobeil and grandson, Barry Sylvia.He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Army Signal Service Group. He was stationed in the Philippines and New Guinea among other places. He was an electrician for the Revere Copper and Brass Corporation for many years.

He is survived by his daughters: Carol Sylvia of Cranston, RI and Marie Dobey of Fairfield, CT, grandchildren: Mark Sylvia (Carrie) of East Greenwich, RI, Janet Devine (Peter) of Barrington, RI, Lisa Dobey of Brookline, MA, Joshua Gobeil of Hawaii, step grandchildren: Laura Amicucci (Joseph) of Fairfield, CT and Pamela Peters (Kevin) of Pomfret, CT. Great grandchildren are Michael and Matthew Sylvia and Nicholas Devine and step grandchildren Christopher, Eleanor and Caroline Amicucci of Fairfield, CT.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Avenue, Norwalk, CT at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, Norwalk.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
