John (Jack) Kraushaar

7/15/1954 – 1/9/2012

Jack Kraushaar, 57, beloved son of the late John and Rita Kraushaar of Weston, CT, passed away January 9, 2012 at Westport Health Center.

Born July 15, 1954 in NYC, Jack was the only child and apple of his parents’ eye. Jack lived most of his life at STAR Inc. in Norwalk and shared a home with six housemates that were his “family” and they will miss him terribly.   Jack and his housemates were on the cutting edge of community supported living for individuals with disabilities due to the love and perseverance of his parents.

Jack was supported and employed in the Vocational Program by STAR Inc., Lighting the Way…of Norwalk for over 40 years. He loved the socialization that his vocation afforded him.

Jack made a difference in the lives of everyone who met him and his staff were the angels sent from above that cared for him every day.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to STAR Inc., Lighting the Way… Norwalk, CT (www.starinc-lightingtheway.org).

  1. It is with great sadness to learn Jack has passed on. He was always ready to smile when you talked to him and I can still see those enormous eyes and wide grin. He struck me as a happy person and it is a tribute to both of his parents. They loved Jack so much, and after Jack’s father died, Rita, alone, was always there for Jack; advocating, checking him out, treats, and loving him so completely.
It is a tribute to STAR and the dedicated staff, too. They cared about Jack and always strived to make his life better and better. They were devoted and made an enormous difference. They, too, will not be forgotten.
