Louis Rubino, age 71, died late Friday, June 1, 2012, at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Bridgeport, after a long illness. He was born in Norwalk, the son of Grace DePietro Rubino and Louis Rubino, who had a popular restaurant business for many years.
Lou attended Norwalk schools, LaSalle Military Academy in Oakdale, Long Island, and Brown University. He was involved in the ocean shipping business, finance, and insurance for many years, retiring a few years ago. He spent many years travelling between New York, Florida, New Orleans, Europe and the Middle East on business. Lou was an avid ocean racing sailor for many years, including participation in the Newport-Bermuda races. He was also known as a gourmet cook.
He is survived by an aunt Lena Febbraio of Westport, CT, a sister, Angela Poremba of Norwalk, CT, her son Richard Poremba of Richmond, VA, a cousin Joseph L. Kazzi of Stamford, CT, numerous cousins, his longtime companion of 30 years, Irene Forman, and many friends.
Services are being arranged by Collins Funeral Home in Norwalk. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Elizabeth M. Pfriem SWIM Center for Cancer Care at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Bridgeport.
