Marguerite “Marge” Walmark, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, great-aunt and friend, died Monday, June 8, 2015, at The Jewish Home, Fairfield, Connecticut. She was 84.
Born September 21, 1930 in Norwalk, Connecticut, she graduated New Haven State Teachers College magna cum laude, majoring in Early Childhood Education. She taught kindergarten through third grade in the Norwalk Public Schools. She taught Saturday School at Temple Israel, Westport, and was a licensed real estate agent for Englander Real Estate, William Raveis and William Pitt, each of Westport. Upon retirement from real estate, she volunteered at Fox Run Elementary School in Norwalk.
Pre-deceased by Earl, her husband of 51 years, the couple began married life in Norwalk, and raised their family in Wilton, Westport and Weston. Marge is survived by her children Reid (Helen), of Wallingford, Amy Walmark Karp (Aron), of Norwalk, and Michael (Allison Ziering), of Westport; grandchildren Ariel Walmark, Dana Karp, and Ethan and Eliza Walmark; great-grandchildren Layla, Miles and Max; and brother Joseph Schachter of Westport. Marge was also pre-deceased by her parents Max and Jennie Schachter of Norwalk, and brother Sylvan (aka Arthur) Schachter.
Marge was devoted to her family, and led a balanced life. A lover of the arts, especially opera, The Philharmonic, and Broadway — she enjoyed numerous cultural opportunities in the Tri-State area. Marge and Earl loved to travel, having visited many continents, both together and with family and friends.
Services will be held on Thursday, June 11, at 10:00 AM, at the Congregation Beth El, 109 East Avenue, Norwalk, Connecticut. Burial will follow at Temple Shalom/Independent Hebrew Society Cemetery, 143 Richards Avenue, Norwalk, Connecticut. The family will receive visitors on Thursday afternoon and evening, Friday and Sunday from 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM at the home of Michael and Allison Walmark, 13 Rockyfield Road, Westport, Connecticut. There is no Shiva on Saturday, but visitors are welcome from 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM.
