Mary Sirade Shimko


Mary Sirade Shimko of Norwalk, CT died peacefully Tuesday, January 22 surrounded by her loving family. She was 97. Mary was born in Stamford CT. She was the daughter of Paul and Helen Sirade. She graduated from Stamford High School and went to work for Western Union in Stamford. In 1940 she met the love of her life George Shimko. They were married in 1944 while George was still on active duty with the U.S. Army. After his discharge they moved to Norwalk and began raising a family, Mary and her husband George purchased the Sunshine Restaurant in 1965. After the restaurant was sold she began working at Life Study Fellowship in Noroton until she retired in 1981 and spent her remaining years focusing on her true passion – her family, sharing her energy, optimism and loving selfless devotion with her children, grandchildren and eventually great grandchildren. She will be sorely missed by all.

Mary was predeceased by her Husband George Shimko, son George Shimko Jr. her brother John Sirade and sister Sophia Knebel both of Stamford. She is survived by her, daughter Barbara Zinsser and her husband Fred of Norwalk CT. Her son Tom Shimko and his wife Denise of Wilton CT. and daughter-in-law Mary Ann Shimko, Grandchildren; Malinda Shimko Vieux, Chris Shimko, Jennifer Zinsser Wilson, Fred G. Zinsser, Tommy Shimko. Great Grandchildren; Tyler Vieux, Cole Vieux, Julia Vieux, Isabell Wilson, Liam Wilson, Rhys Shimko, Evan Shimko, Ryan Shimko, and many Nieces and Nephews.

A wake will be held at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk CT on Friday, January 25, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 26, at St. Mathew Roman Catholic Church, 216 Scribner Ave. Norwalk, CT 06854. Burial will follow at Saint John Cemetery in Norwalk
