Mary G. DeMarzo
May 20, 1926 ~ May 27, 2013
Mary G. DeMarzo, 87, formerly of Norwalk, CT, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, May 27, 2013. Born on May 20, 1926 in New Rochelle, NY, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Maria (DiBuono) Napolitano and the wife of the late Fred E. DeMarzo, Sr.
On August 28, 1948, Mary married Fred, the love of her life. Being his wife and mother of their four children was her greatest joy.
Mary worked in various administrative positions for Xerox Corp. for many years until her retirement in 1996. Her earlier career began in the 1940’s as part of a professional singing trio known as the “Knapp Sisters”. They performed for many years during the “big band” era entertaining military troops and frequently were heard singing some of their most popular songs on the radio. They also appeared and won competitions on the Major Bowes Amateur Hour and Ted Mack Amateur Hour and sang openings for theater performances.
She was a devoted parishioner of St. Matthew Church in Norwalk and a longtime member of Shorehaven Golf Club for many years until her move earlier this year to Duxbury, Massachusetts. Mary was an avid golfer and competed in many tournaments over the years which resulted in championship awards. She was a loyal New York Yankees and New York Giants fan and passed this passion on to some of her children. She will also be remembered for her great cooking and homemade pizza which was enjoyed by friends and family who still consider it one of the very best.
Mary was a devoted mother whose selflessness, love and generosity will long be remembered not only by her family, but others as well. She is survived by her four children: Robert DeMarzo and his wife, Susan of Pembroke, MA, Denise Houghton and her husband Jim of Belle Mead, NJ, Lucille Correnty and her husband Wayne of Norwalk, CT and Fred DeMarzo, Jr. and his wife Shari of St. Johnsbury, VT, two sisters, Elvira Arbusto of New Rochelle, NY and Edith Scelia of Harrison, NY, five grandchildren, Jason and Jeffrey DeMarzo, Nicole and Eric Houghton, Brian Tenney, and one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brothers, Frank and Joseph Napolitano, and sisters Jenny Gentile, Rose Vallarelli, Carmella (Mil) Cioffoletti, and Edemae Romano.
Friends may call on Friday, May 31, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Ave., Norwalk, CT.
