Mary Socci Butkowsky
April 13th, 1933 ~ December 13th, 2017
Mary Socci Butkowsky, 84, wife of Alexander Butkowsky of Fairfield, passed away on December 13th, 2017 at the Connecticut Hospice Hospital in Branford, Connecticut.
Born April 13th, 1933 in Settefrati, Italy, Mary was the daughter of the late Joseph and Matilda Socci. At the age of 4, she crossed the Atlantic Ocean with her mother to join her father in New Canaan. Mary attended New Canaan High School and later worked as a Bookkeeper for Silliman’s Department Store and then for the Finance Department at the Town of New Canaan until she retired to Vero Beach, Florida.
Her passions included family, friends, food, music and fun. In her early years, Mary traveled to New York City for voice and sang locally, and in New York, in small musical productions. She married and dedicated her life to raising her family in Connecticut and shared her beautiful voice, and her love for food and fun with her children and grandchildren. Mary’s compassion was felt by all who knew her and she enjoyed volunteering at her church and local charities in Vero Beach.
Mary is survived by her husband Alexander Butkowsky and his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; Sister, Maryann Meyer (William) of Ridgefield; Sister In-Law, Susan Socci of New Canaan; Son, John Joseph Smith (Bonita) of Anderson, SC; (2) Daughters, Laurie Whiteley (Harry) of Fairfield, and Stacey Hart (William) of Trumbull; (9) Grandchildren, Tiffany Smith, Joseph Smith, Elizabeth Monaghan (John), Alexandra Shane (Branden), Janelle Baker (Brandon), William Hart (Allison), Harry Whiteley, Nathan Smith, and Kayla Hart; (4) Great Grandchildren, Kylee Smith-Robinson, Andrew Smith, Jayce Baker, Jordan Smith; (5) Nieces and Nephews, Lewis Socci (Sally), Jeffrey Meyer (Susan), Maria Conway (Thomas), Gary Meyer (Pam), and Catherine Scheurle (Robert); (12) Grand Nieces and Nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her brother Vincent Socci of New Canaan.
Friends may call, Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial with be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at St. Aloysius Church, 21 Cherry Street. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, 352 Main Street, New Canaan.
