September 14, 1932 - September 12, 2012

Nancy A. Smith, 79, of Waterbury, formerly of Norwalk and Stamford, died Wednesday, September 12th, 2012, in Waterbury Hospital. She was the wife of Alton H. Smith.

Born in Port Chester, New York, September 14, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Austin and Margaret White McNamara. The Smith’s were residents of Waterbury the last fifteen years, but had resided for many years in Stamford and a few years in Norwalk. Mrs. Smith was an executive secretary with Dorr-Oliver, Inc., Price Waterhouse, and most recently with Autoswage Products, Inc., of Shelton. An avid reader and gardener, she also enjoyed cooking and bowling.

Survivors in addition to her husband include two sons; Gregory M. Smith and his wife Joyce, of Newport Beach, California, Michael S. Smith, of Stamford, three daughters; Margaret M. Collins, and husband Michael, of Wilmington, North Carolina, Noreen A. Palumbo and husband Alfred “Flip” Palumbo, of Norwalk, and Bernadette C. Nuelle and husband Mark, of Sandy Hook, one sister; Nora Heinrich, of Palm Coast, Florida, a brother; Anthony McNamara, of  Longview, Texas, eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter.  Mrs. Smith is predeceased by another sister; Margaret Cannizzaro and a daughter-in-law; Eileen.
