Nellie Graf age, 83 of Norwalk CT, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2013. Born in Switzerland to the late Johann Brodbeck and Marie Brodbeck on October 21, 1929.

Nellie was born in Switzerland where she attended school while helping on the family farm during World War II. She met her loving husband Ernst (Ernie) Graf and moved to the United States in 1955. The two quickly made Norwalk CT their home. Ernst found work as a mechanic and Nellie as a tailor. Nellie’s love for her job was emulated through the extravagant wedding dresses she made for family and friends and her precision work on clothes. She had a rare talent for creativity turning anything into a work of art. Nellie was a woman of many talents; her garden was unrivaled, her arts and crafts brought life and joy to many and her heart was full of life. Nellie and Ernst lived a life of adventure traveling through the states and Europe.

In 1986 her wonderful husband Ernst Graf sadly passed away. Nellie found comfort where she had always near the ocean at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk. There she met her life partner Vincent Shimko. The two shared the same love of the outdoors including fishing and traveling.

Nellie is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Priska and Bernhard Schwarz; their children Salome Schwarz of Portland, OR and Tabea Giger of Erlenbach, Switzerland. Nellie is also survived by her late sister Hedi Friedli-Brodbeck’s children Gabriela, Ursula and Samuel.

Nellie unfortunately left us with no children; however she was to her long time neighbor Holly and William Dick another loving mother. A grandmother to their kids Jessica Lugo, William, Jason and John Dick and a great grandmother to Jessica’s children Juiliet and Zelene. Nellie passed on unforgettable memories to those who loved her.  Throughout the years her legacy will live forever in her arts and crafts and above all the hearts of her family and friends.
