Patricia "Pat" Zakhar
Patricia (Pat) Zakhar, 73, of Norwalk, died unexpectedly on Friday, August 7, at home.
Pat was born in New York on January 11, 1942, daughter of the late Austin and Katherine (Fox) Gehan. Pat was the wife of William Zakhar and sister of Kevin Gehan, both deceased. She graduated from Norwalk High School, class of 1959 and Danbury State Teacher’s College.
At the beginning of her career she worked as a teacher for the Norwalk Public School system. She moved on to work for the Norwalk Tax Assessor’s office after raising two children and retired from there. She also worked as a children’s aide for All Saints Day Care and had a position with Hallmark Cards.
Pat enjoyed spending her time with her family, friends and two cats, Shadow and Mittens. She spent her spare time traveling and working on homemade crafts.
She will be sadly missed by her daughter Cheryl and Scott Hess of Norwalk, her son Greg Zakhar of Norwalk, brother Austin and Katie Gehan of Danbury, sister Kathy and George Matula of North Carolina, a sister-in-law Karen Gehan of Oakdale, a grandson Kevin Zakhar of Bethel, a granddaughter Brianna Zakhar of Norwalk and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk, on Thursday, August 13, from 5pm-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 14 at 10am at St. Jerome Church, 23 Half Mile Road, Norwalk.
