Richard Glenn Kohfield
March 15, 1931 - December 15th, 2012
Richard Glenn Kohfield, fondly known as “Dick”, a skilled hobbyist magician, performed his final trick by vanishing from this earthly realm on December 15th, 2012 at his home in Norwalk, Connecticut.
Born March 15, 1931 in San Francisco to Edith Krebiel and Carl Kohfield, Dick had fond childhood memories of weekends with his extended family in the remote northern California mountains. In San Francisco he often visited the de Young Museum within walking distance of his home, where he was inspired by American artists such as John Singer Sargent. At Polytechnic High School he was noted to be a “swell chum” and “the brains” by classmates in his yearbook.
Dick graduated from Art Center in Pasadena, California, one of the best art schools in the country and soon after moved to New York City. Through self-discipline and passion, he became a successful Illustrator for over five decades. His art hangs throughout the world and includes movie posters, book covers, and various publications. In his later years he focused on painting scenes that captured the simple beauty in ordinary life. He was honored to participate in the Air Force Arts Program where he donated his commissioned works to the Service.
He was also passionate about the art of magic, particularly parlor magic. He was fascinated and proficient at the “sleight of hand”. He was a charter member of the Danbury Top Hatters Magic Club and served as president for five years. He was active and an avid reader his entire life, and his curious and analytical mind explored many hobbies, such as the craft and flight of model airplanes, golf and tennis.
Dick was dearly loved, well respected and unanimously known as a “good man”. He will be dearly missed. He is survived by his son, Glenn Kohfield and his wife Cyndi of Austin, TX; his daughter, Christina Kohfield of Redondo Beach, CA; and his two grandsons, Tanner Kohfield and Bruno Kohfield-Galeano.
At his request, no funeral was held. At a date to be announced later a gathering of friends and family will take place in Norwalk, CT to honor his life. If you would like to be notified for this gathering please contact email@example.com.
