Robert John “Buddy” DeGostin, Sr., 95, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at the Westport Health Care Center in Westport, Connecticut.
He was born on December 30, 1918, in Waterbury, Connecticut, to Joseph DeGostin and Martha Shoenrock DeGostin.
He is preceded by his parents and his sister Marie DeGostin Lane.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Marguerite Lawson DeGostin of Westport; his daughter, Joan Shaw (Cary) of Norwalk; his son, Robert DeGostin, Jr. (Lucille) of Little Rock, Arkansas; three grand-daughters, Jocelyn Shaw of New York City; Kelly Marchand (Michael) and Erin DeGostin, of Little Rock; and one great grand-daughter, Adele Marie Marchand of Little Rock.

A resident of Bristol since 1960, Robert graduated from Crosby High School in Waterbury and served in the United States Army during World War II. During his long career, he managed the Triple X and Lincoln stores in Waterbury; Myrtle Mills in Unionville; and owned and operated his own store, Bob’s Hardware, in Unionville. He completed his professional career as a traffic manager for Eastern Fastener in New Britian.

His funeral service was held on Sunday, July 20, at the Collins Funeral Home in Norwalk. Burial was on July 21 at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Bristol.

  1. I would like to offer my sincerest condolences to Mr. DeGosten’s family. Your husband, father, grandfather was truly an American Hero and I would like to thank him for his service to our country during WWII. There are not many left like Mr. DeGosten and those soldiers, past and present, should never be forgotten. God Bless him!
