Sharon Derene, 76, peacefully passed away at her home in Stratford, CT on Saturday, January 31, 2015. She battled pancreatic cancer courageously and fearlessly while her beloved family and partner Maury Streicker was by her side. Sharon was born August 19, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Murray and Rose Falk. Ms. Derene spent most of her adult life in the Stamford, CT/Westchester area. She was a homemaker for many years to her 4 children and a dedicated employee of the Child Guidance Center in Stamford, CT for over 30 years as their Financial Administrator. Sharon is survived by her 2 sons, Craig and Todd, daughter Meredith, and her cherished daughters–in-law, Sue and Randi, and son-in-law, John. She is predeceased by her eldest son Andrew.
Beloved Grandma Sharon is survived by her 10 grandchildren. Craig & Sue Derene’s children are Jason and Amy (Alpharetta, GA). Todd & Randi Derene’s children are Scott, Jake, and AJ (Weston, CT). Meredith & John Jansen’s children are Jordan and Tanner (Stamford, CT). Andrew Derene’s children are Jennifer, Sarah, and Sam.
Sharon Derene had an unmatched passion for her family and an active lifestyle. She loved to shop, travel, sit on a beach, read, play tennis, and socialize with friends. One of her greatest joys in life was to spend hours preparing, shopping, and cooking the next big family meal. She was an amazing cook and master of the kitchen. Her precious “Ollie” (Corgi) will miss her greatly too.
A funeral service will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, February 3rd, in Temple Shalom, 259 Richards Avenue, Norwalk, CT. A ceremonial burial will immediately follow at Temple Beth El Cemetery, 350 Roxbury Road, Stamford, CT. The family will be sitting Shiva and receiving friends on both Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 5-8pm at the Jansen’s located at 2 Shady Lane, Stamford, CT.
