A cemetery service will follow at the Temple Shalom/Independent Hebrew Society Cemetery, 147 Richards Ave., Norwalk. Sheldon Katz


April 5, 1937- July 13, 2011

Sheldon Katz, 74, of West Haven, CT passed away July 13, 2011 following a battle with cancer.  Sheldon was the son of Ethel and David Katz, and is predeceased by his brother Robert.  He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sheila W. Katz of West Haven, CT, his sons Bruce J. Katz of Worcester, MA and Steven F. Katz of New York City, his daughters-in-law and his six grandchildren.

Sheldon, was a US Army veteran. He was born April 5, 1937 in New York City and was a longtime resident of Norwalk, CT.  Along with his father and brother, he operated Katz Realty, an independent real estate office specializing in sales, development and management of commercial and residential properties in Fairfield County, CT.  He served his community as a longtime member of the Norwalk Board of Realtors and as a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 72.  He was actively involved with the Masonic Fraternity for over 40 years beginning at the Old Well Lodge # 108 in Norwalk where he rose to become Master.  His leadership positions included President of the Masonic Lodge of Research, President of the 1st District Blue Lodge Council, President of the New England Grotto Association and Monarch of Monker Grotto.  In addition, he served as Member of Pyramid Shrine Temple, Member of Scottish Right, Member of Trumbull Lodge # 22 New Haven, CT as well as serving on a variety of committees at the Grand Lodge.

  • for 2 years we sat in the restaurant and we had breakfast together most days . we told jokes n laughed together, talked about family n friends..he came into my life at the right time when i needed a good friend… he picked me up when i was down n always made my day he was my best friend and i will miss him very very much…my condolences to his beautiful wife shella and family.. thanks for the memories..with love patrcia…………………………
