May 13, 1945 - December 1, 2016

Shirley Francis Chang, 71, wife of Chin Shu Chang of Derby, CT, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Saint Vincent’s Medical Center. Born May 13, 1945, in Norwalk, CT, she was the daughter of Sun Soon Wu and Fung Ho Wu.

Mrs. Chang attended Brien McMahon High School, and then attended New York University. She owned and operated Golden Dragon, and then Peking Inn restaurant in Westport, CT, as well as Mandarin East in Norwalk, and The Oriental Palace in Stamford, as well as Golden Palace in Wolcott. She was previously affiliated with the Mandarin Inn, also in Norwalk. Shirley worked earlier at Hing Lee, a family-owned laundromat, and for New Canaan attorney Linda Strumpf.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Chang is survived by her children Kevin and wife Jessica Hwang of Westport, Karin and husband Joseph Beggan of Norwalk, Thomas and wife Victoria Hwang of Trumbull, Aimee and husband Vincent Russo of Westport, Tiffany and husband Richard Phil of Ansonia, and Eileen Chang and husband Jason Edwards of Seymour; grandchildren Dennis and wife Ciara, Courtney Davis and Paul Hwang, Kristina McLaughlin, Clare, Elizabeth and William Beggan, Joshua and Jacob Boxer, Halle and Kaylyn Hwang, Christopher, Jonathan, Benjamin and Victoria Russo, and Joshua Phil; great-grandchildren Ameeya and Madisyn Hwang; siblings Helen Wong, Jessie LeBrun, Mary Wong, and Henry Wu; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends.

Mrs. Chang was predeceased by siblings George Wu, Sr. and Esther Leong.

  1. Eileen, I am soo sorry for your lost -_-. While I did not have the opportunity to meet your mom, I do have the honor of knowing you, and in knowing you, I know your Mom is an amazing woman. May she rest in peace, and may you and your family rejoice in the memories and knowledge that she is in a better place watching over you all. <3
