Stephen Bernard Weitz

March 19, 1929 - December 11, 2018

Stephen Bernard Weitz died peacefully at home on the evening of December 11th. He was born in 1929 in New York. His family moved to Norwalk in 1934, where they opened the family business of Budget Markets. He attended Horace Mann in the Bronx, then Drake University. From there, he went into the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Devens, Mass. He worked for many years as a stockbroker at A.G. Edwards & Sons and retired from there. He served at various times as President of Congregation Beth El, on the Planning Commission for the City of Norwalk, and on the Board of Directors for Merchants Bank and Trust.

Stephen and Selma (née Wein) were married in 1950. They lived in Norwalk then moved in 1983 to Brookfield, CT.

A stroke in 1988 paralyzed his left side. Although he could no longer play golf or tennis, drive, or, after awhile, work, he continued to cook with the help of a few kitchen gadgets, and claimed that he was the best one-handed chef around. After the stroke, Stephen became an avid and able computer user. The computer opened a wide, wonderful, and fulfilling world, where (among many other things) he could visit museums abroad, attend Andre Rieu concerts, keep track of basic household finances, and create the occasional greeting card.

Stephen is survived by his wife Selma, sister Renee Pomerantz of Bridgeport, CT, son Eric (Ann Sheehy) of Dublin, Ireland, daughters Debbie Pace (Rocky) of Bethel, CT and Wendy (Joe Mucci) of New Milford, CT. Grandchildren are Danny, Greg, Lauren, Eamonn, and Liam, and great-granddaughter Maddie.

The service will be at Temple Beth El, East Ave., Norwalk, CT, Sunday the 16th of December at 1:00 p.m., followed by burial at Beth El Cemetery on Richards Avenue in Norwalk.
