Thomas P. Spinola

October 14, 1954 ~ June 18, 2013

Thomas Patrick Spinola, loving husband of Deborah Spinola of Fairfield, CT, died June 18, 2013 at his home, surrounded by loved ones.

Born October 14, 1954, in Norwalk, CT, he was the son Sylvio (Babe) and the late Alice Spinola.

Tommy was the proud owner and operator of Partners Café in East Norwalk which he opened in 1983 with his business partner, the late Chuckie LoPriore. Tommy started his career as a paperboy at the age of 12 and then worked as an auto mechanic and builder before opening Partners Café. In his eyes, Partners was his greatest accomplishment; a place where people could gather for good food, a good time, and a good laugh. Tommy enjoyed people. He was a kind, good hearted soul who helped many people throughout the years, but above all else, Tommy’s greatest love was his family.

In addition to his father and wife, Tommy is survived by his four children who were born in his heart: Nick and his wife Leigh, Christy, Ernie and Stephen Marsan. He was Pop-pop to his loving grandchildren, Cheyenne, Nicholas, Justin, and Taylor. He is also survived by his brothers and their wives: Donald and wife Heidi Spinola and Billy and wife Penny Spinola; as well as loving nieces Carli, Kallie and Simone, along with many more nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Friday, June 21st, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM in the Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 22nd, at 11:00 AM in St. Joseph Church, 85 South Main Street, Norwalk, CT. Entombment will follow in St. John Cemetery, 223 Richards Avenue, Norwalk, CT.

In lieu of flowers contributions in Tommy’s memory may be made to: Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.

  1. Dear Debbie and family of Tom Spinola,

My deepest sympathy goes to you and your family at this difficult time. Tommy was very good friends with my nephews (John and Tom Piro), and I remember seeing him at family events. He was always kind, polite and caring. I pray that your sadness will ease as time goes on, knowing that Tommy is now at peace from all his suffering and that he shall one day be together again with all his loved ones. God bless you, Debbie, Children, Tommy’s Dad “Babe” Spinola, Anna Mastrolillo, and all the family and friends whose lives have been touched by him.

    Sincerely, Virginia Cundari Falcone (Ginny)

  • Debbie, Babe and entire Spinola family. We are so very sorry that Tommy had to leave so soon. He was a wonderful and generous man. When we got married in 1980, Tommy lent us his yellow Cadillac to use for our wedding transport. Before then, he was an avid card player with Augie Ciambrielle, Sr, Billy Debone, Sammy Debone, Lightbulb (Charlie Franklino), and so many others. We’d come into Partners, and I’d always get a hug and kiss, like he always welcomed everyone.
We’ll miss him forever, but we also all need to follow in his ways and that is to treat everyone you come across like family.

    Love Always,

  • Oh my where do I start , Deb you and Tommy have been in our lives for so long and I cant tell you how much it meant to see Tommy when I was last up and had lunch with him and caught up. He had given me so much great advice over the years and I always looked to him as a kid like an uncle.. Walking in the restaurant and hearing him call out to me ” Hey kiddo whats up” and give me a big hug always made me feel so welcomed. Countless summers working with you all at Partners as a kid and being a big part of my Dad & Karen’s lives from their marriage on the boat to countless summers out in the islands and hanging with Christy, Ernie and Steve. I am truly sadden by this and I will be flying up to CT first thing in the morning to be at the services this weekend. I am sorry for you loss and I like so many others will never forget “The Big Spin” but to me he will always be “Uncle Tommy”..- Jason Szabo

  • My deepest hearfelt condolences to Babe, Deb and the Spinola family. Tommy was a spark that god lent us for a while, he was generous, caring and touched so many lives. He was an anchor for many, no matter how long you had been away from Norwalk, whenever you walked into Partners he always greeted and welcomed you as if he only saw you yesterday and made you feel as if you had come home. He was an honorable man and lived by example of what a truly successful human being is, this will live on in his family and everyone that had the priviledge of kowing Tommy.

You will be sadly missed Cuz RIP

We are wishing you comfort, the feeling that comes from knowing how much others care for you.
Wishing you peace, the calm that comes from trusting in something beyond our own being.
Wishing you hope, the strength that comes from knowing that not even the deepest sadness can last forever.
Tommy was an extraordinary man! The joyful memories will remain in your heart.
I met Tommy in our early teens; I NEVER recall him speaking unkindly of anyone. He found good in EVERYONE. Tommy will be missed by many!

  • Dear Debbie and family,

This is truly heart-wretchening. Tommy was so kind and giving. His love for people was always so evident in his warm hello’s and smile. He touched so many lives and created such a home-town atmosphere in Partner’s Cafe. Whenever we came back to Norwalk, Partner’s was the place to meet. Tommy created that. You were such a devoted wife and your children adored him as he adored them. He loved you so much.

Tom, may you rest in peace. We all love you and you will be missed by so many, but the memories will always live in our hearts. God Bless your family at this very sad time.

  • Tommy and I knew each other since childhood. We went to St. Joseph’s together, hung out together, got in trouble together (as young mischievous boys do), dated our girlfriends together, rode motorcycles together and ebbed and flowed out of each others lives till life had other plans for us. He always brought a smile to my face and said something to make me laugh. He was genuine, warm, kind and funny, and I will miss his easy way, hearing him say “how’s it goin’ cuz” and seeing him “around”.

My sincere condolences to his entire family. Indeed a great loss to all who knew him.

He touched so many people in the short time he was here, and we were so glad to be able to call him our friend. Although he was taken away way too early, he is no doubt looking down and saying, “woo hoo….what a ride!”. Tommy was truly one of the “good guys”, and will be missed.
