Timothy J. Murphy, Jr.

Timothy J. Murphy Jr., age 87, of Norwalk, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 9,2013.  Beloved husband for 63 years of Doris Williams Murphy, Tim was born in Brooklyn on February 9, 1925 and was the son of the late Edith and Timothy Murphy, a captain in the NYPD.  A graduate of Bishop Loughlin High School in 1943 and Fordham University in 1948, Tim went on to receive his MBA from the NYU Graduate School of Business.  Tim served as an officer in the U.S. Navy in the Philippines from 1943-1946.

Tim had a long career with IBM and retired in 1982.  He and Doris travelled extensively after his retirement, visiting 23 countries. They especially enjoyed numerous trips to his beloved Ireland, where he and Doris enjoyed playing golf and taking in the local culture.

Tim is survived by his wife and 5 children: Timothy and his wife Elizabeth of Charleston WV, Susan and her husband Jim Binder of Charleston WV, Eileen Durand of Guilford CT, Thomas of Stamford CT, and Raymond and his wife Geri of Fairfield CT. He is also survived by his 9 grandchildren: Cara (Brian) Knechtly, Jennifer Murphy, James and Michael Binder, Maura (Daniel) Bassman, Shannon, Molly, and Colleen Durand and Timothy Murphy.  Tim was pre-deceased by his son-in-law, Stephen Durand.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, January 12th at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT.   Interment will be private at the family’s request.
