The family will receive guests prior to the service beginning at 2:30pm. Trinette Emily Haase Ely


November 14, 1926 ~ February 20, 2015

Trinette Emily Haase Ely, 88, of Norwalk, wife of the late Clifford Seth Ely, Jr., passed away Sunday, February 20, 2015 at Notre Dame Convalescent Home in Norwalk. Born November 14, 1926 in Norwalk, CT, she was the daughter of the late Fredrick L. B. and Edna (Hess) Haase.

 

Mrs. Ely was the valedictorian for the Class of 1944 at Robert E. Fitch High School in Groton, CT and attended the Traphagan School of Design in New York City. Before starting a family, she worked for Conde Nast Publications in Greenwich, CT sketching Vogue fashion patterns. She was a member of Our Sister’s Rebekah Lodge and taught Sunday School at Grace Episcopal Church in Norwalk for many years. Known for her creativity, she was a sought-after seamstress and avid quilter, also working as a bank teller at Connecticut National Bank. Retiring to the eastern shore of Maryland with her husband in 1987, she was active in the Women’s Club and Heartland Quilt Club of Denton, MD and Bayside Quilter’s Club in Easton, MD before moving back to Norwalk in 2009.

 

She is survived by her daughter Sharon Ely Pearson and her husband John of Norwalk; son, David Clark Ely and his wife Caroline of Berkeley, CA; two grandchildren, Rebecca Hays and her husband Jamie of Berlin, CT and Christopher Pearson of Middletown, CT; sister-in-law Barbara E. Alley of Storrs, CT; and ten nieces and nephews. Her brothers Fredrick and Irving Haase predeceased her.

    Your Mom was such a wonderful woman!! I remember her teaching us to sew at “The Girl’s Friendly Society” at Grace Church..she was a terrific role model and inspiration to me..as I also attended Traphagen School of Fashion..She was not only talented, but so giving and accepting of life’s circumstances..you have my heartfelt sympathy and at the same time joy, knowing she is in a better place..no more suffering..
