William James McBrinn


July 8, 1939 - February 5, 2011

William James McBrinn, 71, passed away suddenly and peacefully in the early morning hours of February 5, 2011 at Stamford Hospital surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born July 8, 1939 in Norwalk, CT, he was the son of the late Dermot and Emily (Delaney) McBrinn of Norwalk.

Bill grew up in Norwalk, graduating from St. Joseph’s School and Norwalk High School (Class of ’57). He served in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service from 1958-63 and was crew on the USS Spikefish for her 10,000th dive on March 18th, 1960 off Key West, FL.   After his discharge from the Navy, Bill was employed by Northeast Utilities at Manresa Island Power Plant for many years.  He went into the construction business in the late 60’s when he and a friend owned Luciani & McBrinn Paving for several years.  Until his retirement he was employed by Morrow Construction and then C&C Landscaping.

Bill is survived by his close companion of 12 years, Julie Hvid, of Stamford, CT,  his daughter, Kelly (McBrinn) Renwick and her husband, Brooks, of Norwalk, CT,  his step-daughter, Dawn (Scire) Mccaffery and her husband, George,  of Sarasota, FL, and his beloved grandchildren: grandson, Will Ayles, and granddaughters, Bailey, Brinn and Brielle Renwick, all of Norwalk. He is also survived by his brother Dermot McBrinn and his wife, Sue of Wilton, CT; sisters, Sheila (McBrinn) Rietano and her husband, Tom of Norwalk, CT, and Mary (McBrinn) Purdy and her husband, Russ of Jacksonville, FL, and several nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.   Bill was pre-deceased by his son, Billy McBrinn, in 1986.  Bill will be remembered and missed as a good friend, brother, father, uncle, leprechaun… and especially Pop-Pop.
