Winnifred M. Chorotas
Winnifred M. Chorotas, Born April 23, 1926 at the Cove Mills area of Stamford. Daughter of Thomas and Harriet Benham of Stamford, Ct.. Winnifred attended school in Stamford and graduated from Stamford High School in 1944. She attended the nursing school at Stamford Hospital and was a LPN. She was married to Frank S. Griffith (deceased) of Darien, Ct. She was married to John Chorotas of Stamford.
Winnifred was a talented amateur artist in both painting and sculpting. One of her drawings is part of the tile display in the Cove Mills museum at Cove Island Park, Stamford, depicting her grandfather waiting for a ship to arrive at Cove Harbor where he was a Harbor Pilot.
Winnifred enjoyed being outdoors where she played on the Connecticut Nutmegers women’s softball team in her early years. She also enjoyed being on the water, swimming, rowing and operating her powerboat. Her last years were spent looking out over the Norwalk Harbor from her home.
Winnifred is survived by her sister, Helena Ann Starkey of Norwalk, her husband John Chorotas, her children’s families, Thomas and Jacqueline Griffith of East Haven, Ct., Sandra and Drue Martineau of New Port Richey Florida and Holly and William Dick of Norwalk, Ct.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, David and Victoria Griffith, Robyn Griffith, William Dick Jr., Jessica Lugo, John Dick, Jason Dick, Cassie James, Wendy Tarantino, Raechael James and Kathleen O’Brady and twelve great-grandchildren.
A Wake and prayer service will be held at Collins Funeral Home 92 East Ave. Norwalk, Ct. on March 13 from 5-8 PM. Internment will be on Thursday, March 14 at 1130 AM at Fairfield Memorial Park in Stamford, Ct. Donations can be made to the American Heart Association in Winnifred Chorotas’ name.
